Welcome to our School!

Welcome to Gardening Club

Our Gardening Club takes place on Thursday lunchtimes and is run by Mrs Price and Mrs Hortop.

The aim of our Gardening club is to:
  •  help the children learn to respect and care for our environment.
  • teach the children about plants.
  • encourage the children to look after their own play areas and make them more attractive.
  Week 1   Grass Heads
We are planting  'grass heads '. These are pots that the children have decorated with faces and planted with grass seeds. As the grass grows the children can have fun 'styling' and 'cutting' it.

  Week 2   Planting vegetable/salad seeds
The children can choose to plant a variety of vegetable/salad seeds. We have tomato seeds, beans, radish, lettuce, spinach and many others. The children will be using recycled pots and will be shown how to care for their seeds. They will be reminded to water their grass head. (Hopefully we can add some photos soon.)

  Week 3  Planting flower seeds.

We have a selection of flower seeds for the children to sow indoors and out. We hope to plant some wildflower seeds in our wildlife area (weather permitting). The children will be shown how to 'pot on' their vegetable seedlings as they grow.

Week 4   Planting Trees in the Wildlife Area

We have some trees that we have been looking after in containers. They are now ready to be planted. The children will be helping dig the holes, plant the trees and keep them watered over the coming weeks.

 Week 5  Potting on

The children will be tending the plants they sowed earlier in the season and potting on any that need larger pots.  As one of our members wanted to grow strawberries we will be planting some of these and hoping that we have some sun to ripen them.

Week 6  Caring for their plants and the environment

The children will be looking after the plants they have sown, cutting back the spring bulbs  and watering and weeding the garden beds.  They will be potting on any plants that are ready for a larger pot.

A special thank you to Mr Slee for the donation of boxes of vegetable seedlings for the children to grow.
